This blog will walk you through a problem statement and help you build a roadmap for the same. Roadmap literal meaning is a plan of action, laying out the future action of participants. Similarly Product Roadmaps is a plan of action for how a product or solution will evolve over time. Product owners use roadmaps to outline future product functionality and when new features will be released. When used in agile development, a roadmap provides crucial context for the team’s everyday work and should be responsive to shifts in the competitive landscape.

Now Presenting the problem statement 😍

You are running a project team for the new Apple AirTag launch. AirTags are small pins you can apply to an object, so that any Apple phone nearby can securely and anonymously help you track where the tagged objects is if you lose it. You have been tasked to run a three months project to launch a new feature. The new feature will allow phone from manufacturers other than Apple to help locate the AirTags. You will create epics to research, develop and test the feature. You want to have a roadmap that will visualize the plan, and export it so that your stakeholders can review.

I have created the roadmap in Jira which is a leading issue and project tracking tool used for project management, particularly useful for agile methodologies.

To begin with roadmap , you can create a free account or login to your existing Jira account. Then the next step is to create a project and then select the agile template- Scrum or Kanban. For this project, kanban template is selected. Then you need to to choose a project type-Team-managed or Company-managed; here I have selected team managed.

Once you have created the Project, you can visit the roadmap option on the left side. For the ease let’s divide the roadmap formation process into following activities:-

Let’s Perform the first activity of creating epics and issues:-

Now after creating epics and issues, let’s move on to the second activity of planning the roadmap with labels and colors :

After planning the roadmap , add dependencies:-

Updating the status of epics and issues:

Let’s monitor the completed tasks :

Hurray !!🥳 Our roadmap is completed; lets share with my you all.

Complete roadmap

Now it’s your turn:-

  1. Select a problem statement .
  2. Create Roadmap .
  3. Share

And do not forget to 👏
